question answering provides improved relevance ranking and additional support to add and query unstructured content from documents and public URLs., We will retire the older QnA Maker service on 15th March 2025. Please transition to using question answering in Language Service by that date. If you have a question, please post it in this thread

Hi, I'm a bit confused about the pricing when we use "Custom Question Answering"

The FAQ only mentions "input document", how about when we use the API for Custom Question Answering? Does user's question and answer returned counts into the pricing for text records?

Or the pricing only count on input document for "Prebuilt question answering"?

How about document or URL we send in for training in Custom Question Answering? Does it involve cost?

From the FAQ:
A text record in the S tier contains up to 1,000 characters as measured by StringInfo.LengthInTextElements. If an input document into the Language API is more than 1,000 characters, it counts as one text record for each unit of 1,000 characters. For instance, if an input document sent to the API contains 7,500 characters, it would count as 8 text records. If an input document sent to the API contains 500 characters, it would count as 1 text record. If two documents are submitted, one document of 500 characters and one document of 1,200 characters, then the service would be billed for three text records in total: one record for the 500 character document and two text records for the 1,200 character document. You can check your text record

Hi,

Is there a place to monitor the Custom Question Answering usage?
We want to see how much 5000 free text records are used.

If we use S tier, do we still have the 5000 free text records used before it start to charge?

Hi, based on this link (https://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/updates/azure-qna-maker-will-be-retired-on-31-march-2025/), we will not be able to create any QnA or knowledge bases beginning Oct 1st, 2022.

-Will I still be able to maintain an edit existing applications that use QnA?
-How will my existing applications be impacted, if at all?

Hi,

We used to use QnA Maker, but had migrated all our knowledge bases to Custom Question Answering. However I still have received the email saying I need to migrate.

Migrate to custom question answering before Azure QnA Maker is retired on 31 March 2025
You're receiving this email because you have applications that use QnA Maker.

Is this a mistake, or is there still something we need to do. QnA maker still shows the knowledge bases but they are marked as "(Custom question answering)"

Thanks for reaching out to us, if you have already done the migration, you can ignore the email. The email should be sent to all the customers who had QnA maker resource to make sure the migration need to be done. I am sorry for the inconvenience.
