FLIGHT DETAILS

This will be our final Community Fly-in of 2021. Thanks to everyone who has joined us on Fridays throughout the year to either fly along with the group or to watch the livestreams. We sincerely hope you have found these events enjoyable and a fun way to engage with other sim pilots from the MSFS community. Hopefully you have made some new friends along the way! In the new year, we will resume our regular Friday fly-ins starting January 7, 2022.

For this week’s flight, we will be departing from Celle Air Base (ETHC) and flying across Germany, the Netherlands, and the North Sea on a calm winter’s night en route to our destination of RAF Lakenheath (EGUL) in the UK.

No .pln file is needed for this week’s flight. Simply set your departure airport to ETHC and your arrival airport to EGUL.

AIRCRAFT

Recommended aircraft: a turboprop or jet like the TBM 930, L-39 Albatross, or similar (suggested cruise speed of around 275 knots). If you own third-party planes, military jets like the MB-339 or Hawk T1 are good choices for this flight.

We will be starting at ETHC. Please load your aircraft 10 minutes prior to take off and taxi over to the runway in preparation for departure.

WEATHER

We will be using a custom weather preset for this flight, “Nice Snow”. For PC players, please download the file below and place it in the correct location depending on whether you have Microsoft Flight Simulator from the MS Store or from Steam (replace YOURNAME with your Windows username):

MS Store
C:\Users\YOURNAME\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.FlightSimulator_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalState\Weather\Presets

Steam
C:\Users\YOURNAME\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft Flight Simulator\Weather\Presets

NiceSnow.WPR (2.5 KB)

MULTIPLAYER SETTINGS

Please adhere to the following settings so you can see everyone / be seen by everyone.

Variable Setting
Server North Europe
Multiplayer All Players
Live traffic As preferred
Weather Nice Snow
Time of Day Night

It is advised in this flight to turn off both aircraft collisions and terrain collisions. If you do crash, you can use “slew” mode to join the pack. If the pack will be too scattered before the first stop, we will use slew on a defined point to regroup.

COMMUNICATION

To communicate with others, a voice channel on the "Official Microsoft Flight Simulator Discord” at https://discord.gg/msfs will be available to join.

LET’S FLY

This is meant to be a fun and informal flight. Everybody is welcome, no matter the amount of experience.

Oh, a historical map of Germany, devided in 2 parts West/East Germany (till 1990) and also Berlin is still devided. Will it also be a historical flight?

You might get more people if you change the time to something later. 3pm est and 12 pst on a weekday is when most people work.

If we moved the start time later to better accommodate North Americans, then all our European fans won’t be able to participate because they’ll be sleeping. Given the global audience of Microsoft Flight Simulator, any time we choose will not work for a certain percentage of people who would like to take part. We selected this time carefully as the best compromise to allow the greatest number of people to fly with the community and/or view the event on Twitch. We’re sorry if this time doesn’t work out for you personally.

CM Edit: In the new year, we plan on doing some special streams that will accommodate some different time zones. We’ll update you accordingly on those!

Hello everyone!

To those who were already familiar with Frederick Forsysth’s classic aviation story The Shepherd, and to those who just heard it for the first time ever during today’s Community Fly-In, I hope all of you enjoyed this unorthodox Community Fly-In. We’ll be returning to regular weekly Community Fly-Ins starting on January 7, 2022.

I want to express my most sincere gratitude to the contributions of the cast and crew. I could not have possibly had a better team of collaborators for this project. To Jayne, InkQuest, Pieter, simtom, Jorg, Chewwy94, twotonemurphy, FactualGull, Alyson Johnson, and ObsidianAnt, THANK YOU.

To the wonderful Microsoft Flight Simulator player community, this video is my holiday gift to you. Creating this short film was a true labour of love. I shot this footage, searched for appropriate music and sound effects, and edited everything together entirely in my own personal time on evenings and weekends over the last month. I hope you enjoyed watching this video as much as I enjoyed making it. If you would like to view it again, I’ve placed it on my YouTube channel below:
