Office 2019 Standard Install Error - Windows 10 S Mode

Question

Sunday, May 3, 2020 1:20 AM

As the title states, I can't get Office 2019 Standard to install because the installer insists I am trying to install it on a version of Windows that is in S mode. It is not in S mode. Screenshot of the error:

Here is my system about screenshot:

I have re-imaged the machine several times because of this and tried several different Office 2019 versions. I get this error using the ODT and out of the box XML config files. The laptop is definitely not in S mode. I'm just kind of stumped. Has anyone seen this or know how to get around it?

Hi Jordan,

I can't reproduce your issue.

If you confirm that the device is not in S mode still has this problem, I suggest you open a paid support ticket with Microsoft Support to help review problem and help you test remotely.

You can refer to this similar post below, MD5Hash encountered almost the same situation as you:

"Windows 10 in S mode doesn't support this version of Office" using ODT setup of PerpetualVL2019 with config.xml

Hey Jordan. I think you and I have the exact same problem. You're using the VLPerpetual version right? That's what I'm stuck on too. The setup.exe works for installing O365 files but not the Office 2019 perpetual licensed versions. Here's my thread from february.

https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/office/en-US/4dafddb3-cb48-47eb-b332-32f679af21ec/quotwindows-10-in-s-mode-doesnt-support-this-version-of-officequot-using-odt-setup-of?forum=Office2016setupdeploy#bda9ff02-c4c8-4e33-b449-7740a7f11125

I happened to be testing this again today since there was a new ODT version that came out last month. Same problem as with the April and preceding ODT's.

As I pointed out in my original post here, I think this is the problem:

"This is 2019 Perpetual, which is still on 1808 anyway, 1902 isn't even an option for anyone (source)."

So the setup.exe expects you to be using at least 1902. Which is fine for Office 365. But as my (source) link shows, Perpetual is stuck on 1808. So it seems like this is a bug with Office because it's looking for something that can't possibly exist yet.
