Usually I do this by going back to one of those stashed-away rough drafts that I keep hidden away, so I can get myself back into the groove of writing without having to stare at a blank page and come up with something brand new.

Other times, like I said, I'll turn to reading, watching movies or TV, playing video games, etc., in hopes that some idea with pop into my head.

I know some writers who just force themselves through it, but I've never really been able to work that way. For me, it helps to back away for a bit, whether it's just a couple of days or even a few weeks or months in certain cases. In those instances, you just have to trust that an idea will come from somewhere and have you scribbling away (or clacking those keys) in no time.(less)

If you didn't get them onto the page, they'd just be up there in your head arguing with you and each other.

Also, having someone tell me that one of my stories or poems really moved them is always a great feeling, knowing that my words touched them and connected with them in some way.(less)
