Daniel: The Microsoft Identity team in Dublin runs two of the world’s largest identity systems. With Microsoft Account, we run the identity system for Microsoft’s consumer services like Xbox, Skype and Outlook.com. With Azure Active Directory, we serve many of the largest companies in the world, ensuring that their employees can log into their PC and access their email, documents, and applications without friction.
Ilana: Modern IT has changed, and no longer are all our apps running on servers inside our corporate networks, with firewalls and network perimeters keeping us safe. With our applications and data served through SaaS apps and the public cloud, the key piece is the identity. The identity connects these disparate systems, and gives IT the ability to enable great experiences and unlock productivity for the workforce they’re serving. Identity is the control plane of modern IT.
81% of breaches occur through an identity, so protecting our users from attack is a major responsibility. We gather data from across Microsoft services and process 170TB a day of data through our machine learning models. The massive scale of our cloud presence means we’re able to detect patterns quickly and respond.
We build everything from apps for iOS, Android and Apple Watch, through to robust AI and on to massive scale services. We’re intrigued by the possibilities of identities stored on a blockchain, and by the potential that can be unlocked by a secure Internet of Things.
